Teach English Buenos Aires – ESL Argentina Program

Road2Argentina’s Teach English Argentina ESL program places volunteers in schools in Buenos Aires where they intern as teaching assistants in English language classrooms. As a volunteer Teach English Argentina teacher, you are placed at a local school in Buenos Aires where you assist the English language staff and work directly with their students.

The Teach English Argentina program is especially beneficial for future and current English or Spanish teachers as it provides invaluable classroom and language experience. Previous teaching experience is not a requirement to participate in the Teach English Argentina ESL internship.

ESL teaching in Argentina volunteers assist certified English language teachers who are able to guide the volunteer throughout the teaching process. We recommend preparing some ideas for lessons and thinking about stories and experiences to share with the students before arriving. English as a Foreign Language students are always eager to hear about life abroad and will have a seemingly endless number of questions for the ESL volunteer.

How it works

After you register for the program, we will ask that you submit a copy of your resume, including any previous teaching experience and language qualifications. We then confirm your ESL teaching internship and provide you with specific placement details. ESL teaching internships are volunteer and unpaid.

Brenden Sloan taught ESL at a high school in Buenos Aires in 2007.

“I wanted to get a feel for the Argentine education system and have a placement where I could speak primarily Spanish and connect with some young people. On a typical day I had one class with a group of 20 students where I was a teaching assistant then a 10 minute break in between classes during which I could converse with the students and teachers in the hallways. In the second class I was able to teach 4 to 5 lessons on my own about American culture, history, and politics. After the program was over, the students invited me to a big raffle party that they were organizing to sponsor their annual trip to Patagonia to help some poorer communities. It was amazing to experience them in a non-school environment and to meet their parents. I made some great connections and learned a lot from my time at the school.”
