Parents and AdvisorsInformation for Parents
We look forward to working with your student(s), and we are committed to offering you and your students high-level academic courses abroad as well as a range of services including the support of our coordinating staff. Our contact information is provided so that university faculty and advisors can reach us at anytime with questions and concerns. Below you will find information covering frequently asked questions, including information about transcripts/grades, medical insurance, health and safety, and financial aid. All topics referenced below will also be covered in the orientation given to all your students upon arrival. Welcome Note Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian, We are looking forward to helping your son or daughter have an extraordinary immersion experience. We aim to provide all the services and tools necessary so that students will get the most out of their Argentina experience. Therefore, we would like to introduce ourselves, and to emphasize that your student's safety and well-being are always our top priorities. It is our mission to provide participants with individualized programs that best fit their needs. From Spanish courses, to internships and volunteer placements to housing, we take their preferences and needs into account in order to create a total package. We arrange their airport pickup so they will safely arrive at their place of residence. All of our accommodation options are located in the best and safest areas, close to where they will be studying. In addition, we work only with the most reputable universities, language schools, non-profit organizations, and companies in Argentina. We also provide our students with a cell phone, and we encourage you to reach your student on this phone. Also through our website you always offer you the opportunity to text your child's phone any time free-of-charge. Finally, we are always available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for whenever your child has a question or needs assistance. Similarly, we are always available to address any concerns or questions you may have. Please feel free to contact our office at any time. And finally, we encourage you to take advantage of your student’s stay in South America by visiting so that you too can take part in the cultural exchange experience! Sincerely, The Road2Argentina Staff Email: info@road2argentina.com Main Office: Anchorena 1676, C1425EEL Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina Tel./Fax.: +54-11-6379-9391 Safety and Health Insurance Road2Argentina requires that all participants have health insurance while participating in one of our programs. International health insurance can be purchased from abroad. We also recommend that you check to see if your son or daughter will be covered abroad on their current insurance plan. Vaccines No vaccines are required to enter Argentina; however if your student plans to travel outside the of the country while abroad, you may want to check that country's requirements. http://www.cdc.gov/travel. Medical Facilities Upon arrival, students are provided with all medical facility contact information for the areas of the city in which they are studying and living. We ensure that students have access to quality medical care and we aid students in making arrangements with doctors, and when necessary we accompany them to appointments. Medications Students who are on regularly prescribed medications should visit their physician prior to departure. We advise bringing enough medication to last the program’s duration. To ensure that there will be no problems entering the country with their medication, they should have either a copy of the prescription or a doctor’s note. Knowing the generic names of each medication is also recommended. Payment Full program payment must be received at least 7 days before the scheduled start date. In the case that payment is not received by the payment deadline, the corresponding program may be canceled. All program payments must be paid through bank wire transfer. What to Expect To help you share in your student’s study abroad experience, we offer the following information on what to expect during this process. We understand that you want your student to be healthy, safe and above all, happy. We believe in order to have a successful study abroad experience, participants need to be independent, able to solve problems on their own or with the assistance of our staff, and be motivated to study and explore their new home. Pre Departure First and foremost, our staff is available to assist you and your student should either of you have questions. Please feel free to contact us prior to and/or during their trip with any concerns. When arranging financing for their program, we recommend creating a budget in order to factor in any extra spending. This way participants are ready for any expenditures that come along and do not miss out on any activities or trips due to lack of financial planning. If your student does not have a passport, apply for one as soon as they decide to study abroad. The process can take up to two months, so please apply as soon as possible. If they already have one, make sure that it is valid until six months after the end of his or her study abroad program. Also, make two copies of this passport and keep one at home for use in the event that your student's passport is lost or stolen. Debit cards work in most ATM machines around the world. If your student plans to use their card to access funds while abroad, it is a good idea to contact their bank to discuss whether or not there is a limit to how much cash they can withdraw in one day and how much they will be charged. It is also important to alert the bank to your student's plans to be overseas. Provide your student with all your contact information, including office and home phone numbers, email, along with the contact information for a neighbor, close relative, and/or good friend that will be able to reach you in case of emergency. While They’re Abroad We encourage you to maintain frequent communication with your student while they are abroad, either by email or phone. International calling cards are readily available and a cell phone is provided to all participants if they wish to use one. Establish a way to communicate once your student has arrived in his or her host country. Most countries have internet access, so email is a popular and easy choice. Please remember that your student may not call as frequently as you would like! Study abroad is a once in a lifetime experience, so don't be alarmed if communication is less than usual. In fact, you should encourage your student to immerse themselves in the host culture, rather than spending a lot of time on the phone with friends and family. If you’re planning to visit your student while they’re abroad, please make sure you check their excursion and class schedules. Visits during their first couple of weeks abroad are usually not a good idea due to orientation and other special events that occur during this time. These events could prohibit you from making the most of quality family time and experiencing the host city with your student. Staying up to date with current events in their host city is also a great idea. Please see list of helpful links below. Sending Something Special Sometimes sending a package from home can be a hassle and expensive. If your son or daughter is having their birthday or if you just feel like sending them something special, we recommend using the service Send Love Buenos Aires. Care package options include homemade items such as bagels, brownies, cookies, and cupcakes.
